Big Week

Wow. It’s been a big week for the Toobla team. We had a great story published on CrunchGear and TechCrunch yesterday. Lots of thanks to Jay Donovan for writing the piece.

Currently, we’re giving away 1,000 codes to users who can help us test the site. If you have not gotten your code yet, click here. We appreciate all those who’ve signed up and provided feedback.

Opening up the site is to the outside world is an eye-opening experience, to say the least. Fortunately, fears of a total server meltdown, especially following the TechCrunch post, did not materialize! We’re alive and well, and special thanks has to go out to our development team of Matt, Mike and Tony. Keep it up dudes.

But there’s a lot of polishing left to be done - we have a couple new features, namely Facebook Connect and Gnip integration, on the horizon. Plus there’s a number of bugs and performance issues that need to be tackled before the September public beta launch. Ill be addressing some of these issues and our approaches to solving them in future blog posts.

If you have any feedback, please let us know via the website feedback form or email me directly (jake@toobla.com).

Roll Out…

We’ve circled the week of September 14th as launch week! And what a week it will be… Im gonna watch the Buckeyes beat up on USC, celebrate the launch with the Toobla crew in Columbus and then Brian and I off to the Pittsburgh for the 3 Rivers Venture Fair.

In the meantime, it’s testing, testing, testing. Thanks to all the friends who’ve helped us identify bugs.

We’re intent on making version 1.0 of the site work everywhere. I’m happy to say that all libraries and folders are viewable in Firefox, IE and Safari. We’ve heard of one bug in IE where the toolbar at the top covers up part of the library.  We’ll be addressing this soon. In the meantime IE users can work around the problem by selecting ‘zoom out’ from the ‘view’ menu.

We’re also trying to make Toobla as easy as possible to understand. There’s been some confusion on how to get content into one’s library. Right now this can only be done by copying a folder from another’s page or by installing the bookmarklet. For the former, check out the Sherpa’s page to start copying some cool stuff: http://toobla.com/sherpa. For the latter, watch this video to see how it’s done:

More features will be coming soon. Keep the feedback coming! Thanks again to all those helping out!
